Description

This email is to inform you about a recent update from WhatsApp concerning strict enforcement actions against businesses that misclassify message templates, particularly those labelling ‘Marketing’ templates as 'Utility'. What’s changing: -WhatsApp has introduced new enforcement measures to uphold the correct use of template categories. -If a business is detected misclassifying marketing content as utility, WhatsApp will initiate an email warning and begin restrictions if the misuse continues.
 What happens if misuse is detected: If a business is detected misusing the Utility category, WhatsApp will follow a two-step enforcement process: Warning: -If your WABA uses Embedded Signup, a warning on email will be issued if WhatsApp detects that templates intended for Marketing are being submitted under the Utility category. -If your WABA is onboarded using OBO/Manual model, you will not get this warning email however you can evaluate your templates for category change in template management section. If you see several templates with ‘Utility’ as ‘Previous Category’ and ‘Marketing’ as ’Category’, you should make sure to categorize the new templates as per the template guidelines (https://help.webexconnect.io/docs/whatsapp-category-guidelines) Restriction: If misuse is detected again after the warning: -All previously approved Utility templates will be re-categorized as Marketing. -Your WhatsApp Business Account will face a 7-day restriction wherein: -No creation of new Utility templates will be allowed. -No category reviews for existing templates can be completed from WhatsApp manager or Direct Support. -If there is continued misuse after a prior restriction, a longer restriction of 30 days may be imposed. These measures from WhatsApp are aimed to maintain message quality and improve user experience by ensuring that recipients experience is in line with the categorization of the message content. 
 What You Should Do: -Review all existing templates and make sure future templates are correctly categorized according to WhatsApp’s Template Category Guidelines (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/updates-to-pricing/new-template-guidelines?content_id=RgyI5APHdXpXvC3#new-restrictions-on-template-category-misuse--) -Avoid classifying promotional content (discounts, offers, brand awareness, etc.) as 'Utility', even if it contains informational elements. If in doubt, classify templates conservatively. What’s Changing? This is to inform you that Google has decided to discontinue support for shortened or redirected URLs in media file fields within RCS messages. This update is part of Google’s efforts to enhance link transparency and media reliability in RCS. This change was first announced on March 25th and is expected to come into effect within 30 days of the announcement. Impact of This Change Shortened URLs (e.g., bit.ly, tinyurl, branded shortened URLs, etc.) will no longer be supported in media URL fields and thumbnail URL fields. However, shortened URLs will still be allowed in the text content of the message. More details are updated in this product change log - https://help.webexconnect.io/changelog/product-update-rcs. Action Required We recommend you ensure all media and thumbnail URLs in your RCS messages sent to Webex Connect are direct URLs (i.e., fully resolved links without redirection or shortening) to avoid any message delivery failures or rejections. [Resolved] This email is to inform you about a recent update from WhatsApp concerning strict enforcement actions against businesses that misclassify message templates, particularly those labelling ‘Marketing’ templates as 'Utility'. What’s changing: -WhatsApp has introduced new enforcement measures to uphold the correct use of template categories. -If a business is detected misclassifying marketing content as utility, WhatsApp will initiate an email warning and begin restrictions if the misuse continues.
 What happens if misuse is detected: If a business is detected misusing the Utility category, WhatsApp will follow a two-step enforcement process: Warning: -If your WABA uses Embedded Signup, a warning on email will be issued if WhatsApp detects that templates intended for Marketing are being submitted under the Utility category. -If your WABA is onboarded using OBO/Manual model, you will not get this warning email however you can evaluate your templates for category change in template management section. If you see several templates with ‘Utility’ as ‘Previous Category’ and ‘Marketing’ as ’Category’, you should make sure to categorize the new templates as per the template guidelines (https://help.webexconnect.io/docs/whatsapp-category-guidelines) Restriction: If misuse is detected again after the warning: -All previously approved Utility templates will be re-categorized as Marketing. -Your WhatsApp Business Account will face a 7-day restriction wherein: -No creation of new Utility templates will be allowed. -No category reviews for existing templates can be completed from WhatsApp manager or Direct Support. -If there is continued misuse after a prior restriction, a longer restriction of 30 days may be imposed. These measures from WhatsApp are aimed to maintain message quality and improve user experience by ensuring that recipients experience is in line with the categorization of the message content. 
 What You Should Do: -Review all existing templates and make sure future templates are correctly categorized according to WhatsApp’s Template Category Guidelines (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/whatsapp/updates-to-pricing/new-template-guidelines?content_id=RgyI5APHdXpXvC3#new-restrictions-on-template-category-misuse--) -Avoid classifying promotional content (discounts, offers, brand awareness, etc.) as 'Utility', even if it contains informational elements. If in doubt, classify templates conservatively.
